6 Steps for a Great Safety Committee

Too often, committee meetings can become perfunctory, and it can be easy for a group to lose focus on why it was formed in the first place. Your district’s Safety Committee may be suffering from this same malaise, or even more concerning, your district’s Safety Committee may be essentially non-existent.

Safety Committees are an integral piece of keeping district staff safe and reducing workers’ compensation costs. Think of them as the eyes and ears of your district in terms of accident prevention: reviewing inspection reports, accident and illness prevention programs, and accident investigations in order to identify and eliminate safety hazards. They are also a requirement of your district’s Accident Prevention Program as dictated by the Washington Administrative Code.
